ACTIVITIES

Read and interpret drawings and sketches to establish required dimensions to be marked on materials and assembled products;

Marking off and cutting off materials using the oxy-acetylene cutting torch, plasma torch, angle grinders, guillotines, band saws, pipe cutters, and many other cutting tools and machines;

Develop, mark out, bend and roll using parallel lines, radial lines, triangulation and spiral developments;

Preparation of material (pipes and plates) for assembling by rolling, bending, chamfering of weld preps, drilling, and punching;

Assembling together prepared metal components by manual arc welding, and bolting.

Fabrication, repair and maintenance of steel structures;

Knowledgeable use of most hand tools, portable power tools, pneumatic tools, pipe and plate bending machines (manual and hydraulic).

Proper and safe use of lifting machinery and equipment such as overhead cranes, chain blocks, chain pullers, slings, shackles and lifting spreader beams and lugs

Complies with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, legal and regulatory requirements as stipulated by company requirements

The boilermaker is responsible for the assembling, installation and repairs of steel structures as required.
