Job description

Responsibilities



  1. To lead, plan, train and review the work of workshop personnel.

  2. To give proper instructions and guidance to workshop personnel as and when required.

  3. To resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity, efficiency and utilization.

  4. To report pending jobs with reasons for pending and actions taken.

  5. Complies with the OHS ACT 85 of 1993 and all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, legal and regulatory requirements as stipulated by company requirements.

  6. Estimate the time to be allocated to specific jobs and monitor this accordingly.

  7. Resource planning, requirement and allocation of workshop personnel..

  8. Manage large projects; repair and upgrades of Ships and Oil Rigs; manufacturing of industrial and sub-sea structures.

  9. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001/2000 & ISO 140001requirements in the (Machine, Fabrication and Pipe) workshops.

  10. Ensure safe working conditions and good housekeeping.

  11. Interpret client specifications and manufacturing codes and material take-offs.

  12. Manage fabrication planning, method statements underwritten by excellent project management skills.

  13. Control of Labour hours, workshop and equipment.

  14. Implement requirements of Quality Control Plans.

  15. Support Project Managers and function as a member.

  16. Be able to prioritize in dynamic projects environment.

  17. Identifying the training and development needs of subordinates and implementing them.

  18. Providing mentorship and training as required.


Duties:



  • Allocation of Pipe Fitters, Welders, Mechanical Fitters, Semi Skills & Other Team members to tasks.

  • Check and monitor job allocations.

  • Monitor the presence of all the workshop personnel and assist the Project Engineers and Managers in the preparation of production activities.

  • Monitor Production & Welder progress

  • Maintain Quality and productivity of Team members.

  • Resolve fabrication issues and recommend work measures to improve productivity and efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot defects in conjunction with Quality and other team members, and report on possible causes and solutions.

  • Identify and communicate fabrication problems effectively.

  • Know the capabilities of machinery and use appropriately to perform tasks effectively.

  • Make recommendations for equipment upgrades, improvements and optimizing.

  • Advise Management of training requirements and skills levels of workshop/welding personnel.

  • Assist with the assessment, mentoring, training, counselling and motivation of workshop personnel.

To organise, oversee, co-ordinate and carry out the day to day operations of the fabrication workshop.
