Under the direction of the HSE Manager and HSE Co-Ordinator, ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all 3C Metal Belmet employees, according to agreed company standards. This position will provide leadership and co-ordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of the workshop and on-site projects according to company, client and legal safety standards.
Responsibilities / Duties / Job Skills
· Conduct safety activities, by conducting scheduled and unscheduled safety inspections.
· Observe work in progress and ensure that proper safety equipment is worn and relevant safety procedures are followed.
· Notify management and staff regarding violations of safety regulations and codes and make recommendations for corrections and follows-up to ensure that violations have been corrected.
· Investigate safety and health complaints submitted by management and employees.
· Develop and implement, after approval, internal safety rules, policies and guidelines and employee instructions.
· Conduct and provide safety training and safety toolbox talks.
· Provide HSE support to the projects by maintaining a visible presence in the workshops and project sites, where applicable.
· Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the HSE programmes in the workshop.
· Assist in auditing the Safety Management System.
· Provide direction, HSE support and resources to all project managers, supervisors and team leaders.
· Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately.
· Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and implemented.
· Ensure safety boards with postings including, but not limited to Health and Safety policy, inspections and audit results, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained.
· Prepare for and participate in audits such as ISO 45001.
· Comply with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, legal and regulatory requirements as stipulated by company requirements.
· Training all the employees on the job specific risk assessment and written safe work procedure.
· To ensure and enforce compliance with company and client SHE requirements.
· Ensure good housekeeping practices.
· Ensure correct PPE compliance is maintained.
· Inspect tools and equipment on a continuous basis.
· Inspect stores in area of responsibility.
· Inspect work areas and working conditions and identify hazards, eliminate and mitigate on the spot.
Knowledge / Qualifications / Experience
· Minimum 3-year health and safety field experience.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
· The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities.
· Medical fit and in good physical condition.
· Availability to travel.
· Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Certificate e.g. SAMTRAC / Nebosh.
Registered with SACPCMP as CHSO.
